April Update
Update for the April 2025 period, including details this month's meeting, and our following event.
Peter Hart, who owns Kirklands in Saline, came along to our April meeting to talk about his wonderful garden. Peter and his wife, Gill, moved to Saline from Dalgety Bay in 1977 and it was a blank canvas for them to develop. What a project for him and he has enjoyed every minute of it. It is an ongoing project, and the woodlands have been a great success. He has 10,000 snowdrops planted there and lots and lots of bluebells as well. Peter gets the ideas for the garden and Gill keeps his feet on the ground, so to speak, with reality. He has a good show of Meconopsis from May to July and primulas are a favourite. It is fair to say that every plant is his favourite, and he will find room for everything. There is a walled garden with lots of different vegetables that are grown and an orchard with 16 varieties of apple. Kirklands is open every Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 2:00pm to 4:30pm, from April to September. He can be contacted at [email protected] and on facebook.
Our May meeting is about David Douglas, Scottish Explorer, Naturalist and Plant Collector from Scone, in Perthshire. I think this will be really interesting.
As I mentioned earlier, this is the DBHS 50th Anniversary. DBHS Growing for 50 years. For this momentous occasion we have designed a First Day Cover (FDC) with a special post mark. When the post office issues a new stamp, they issue it on a specially designed FDC, and the new stamps are cancelled with a specially designed post mark. DBHS has designed its own a special FDC and special post mark. These have been considered suitable for circulation, and these will be issued on 22nd May 2025. Those of you with a keen eye will notice that this date is special in that it will appear on the post mark as 22-05-2025. 22-05 is an anagram, if you like, of 2025. I like numbers. If you would like a DBHS 50th Anniversary FDC, contact Michael Gourlay on email address [email protected] and he will tell you how to receive one.
Dalgety Bay Horticultural Society (DBHS) holds meetings on the first Friday of each month at 7:30pm in Dalgety Bay Community Centre.
