March Update

Update for the March 2021 period, including latest regarding event cancellations.

Robin Arnott did not come to speak to us on Friday 5th March 2021. The meeting was cancelled because of Covid restrictions. How many months will this go on for? We ran a Cheese and Wine Quiz, though, and we asked for answers by 5th March 2021. We had around 20 returned quiz sheets and the winner was picked on Saturday morning. The winning answer sheet came from Ian and Claire Greig who received a bottle of Barossa Ink Shiraz, a lovely Australian wine we discovered at a wine tasting in February this year.

The April meeting, on Friday 2nd April 2021, is cancelled. It was the second time Tom Campbell had been asked to give his presentation on Brighter Bervie. Tom headed a floral team in Inverbervie on the east coast between Montrose and Stonehaven. They did some wonderful displays around the town. The Scottish Gardeners’ Forum (SGF) held their AGM there one year and we were shown around. It was beautiful.

The DBHS Committee has considered what we will do for the Annual Show this year and has decided that, as restrictions may not be as stringent by the time September comes, but will still be an imposition, we will hold a digital show. Exhibitors will send their exhibits in by photograph. The show schedule will be very much reduced and the rules will be slightly different. There will be prize money, but no trophies will be awarded. So, we will be having a virtual show this year. A virtual show!! I remember many years ago, when the DBHS Secretary was trying to get me to use email and now we are having a virtual show!! Whatever next!!

The “Jobs for” March part of the DBHS report is on the tips page to see what jobs you should be doing at this time of year.

Sincerely,

Michael Gourlay
