July Update

Update for the July 2021 period, including latest regarding event cancellations.

The August meeting, I think would have been quite interesting. Greg Kenicer from the Botanic Gardens in Edinburgh was to give a talk on Plants in Witchcraft. He did this presentation on the TV programme, Landward, presented buy Dougie Vipond and it was really good. Anyway the August meeting has been cancelled mainly because of the restrictions of numbers allowed in Dalgety Bay Community Centre. I have invited him to our August meeting in 2022.

The July meeting was to be a visit to the Japanese Garden at Cowden Castle near Dollar on Saturday 3rd July 2021. We do not hire a coach for this coach trip because of historically low numbers, we usually travel in a fleet of cars, however many is needed for the number of people. There are restrictions about sharing cars at present, so we decided not to go ahead with this trip. The garden is taking visitors just now, so any of you who want to make their own way there are welcome to give it a go. If you do go let me know how you get on.

DBHS will have open days, for the public to visit, on the weekend of 24th and 25th July 2021. The Allotments are open under Scotland’s Garden Scheme along with the private garden of Sybil Cobban at 17 Inchview Gardens in Dalgety Bay. Entry to both venues will cost you £5 at 17 Inchview Gardens. Refreshments will be available for a donation. We have opened the Allotments in previous years, and it has been quite successful. Let’s hope the weather is good that weekend.

The Annual Show Schedule for the DBHS Annual Show, by photograph, a digital show, has been circulated to the DBHS Membership and will soon be circulated to past exhibitors. Copies of this schedule are available on the Annual Show page. Instructions on how to enter are included in the Show Schedule. One thing to point out is that, in the Photography Section, we have asked for mounted photographs in some instances. Please disregard the use of mounts in all photograph classes. We will see that some paper copies of the schedule are available in Dalgety Bay Library from the middle of July.

The “Jobs for” July part of the DBHS report is on the tips page to see what jobs you should be doing at this time of year.

Sincerely,

Michael Gourlay
